i was recently reflecting on some "problem areas" in my life - you know, one of those "issues" you just can't seem to shake, even thought you know full well that you can't do it by your own strength...and then i began to think about God as my Prince Charming - so cliche right?
and then i read psalm 45 and 46
psalm 45 is all about the warrior king and his bride (a word picture of Christ and his bride the church). he is brave and strong and fears the Lord, and he is wild for his princess [v11 -themessage]. no doubt he would do whatever was necessary to protect her.
then we move on to psalm 46
God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him.
We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom, courageous in seastorm and earthquake, before the rush and roar of oceans, the tremors that shift mountains.
Jacob-wrestling God fights for us.
God of the Angel Armies protects us.
[v1-3 -themessage]
Remember - this is the warrior king we're talking about. the one who is wild for the princess.
So then my thoughts turned back to the fairy-tale show.
Prince Charming and Snow White are each other's true love. Even when Snow pretended not to love him, Charming refused to give up on her. Even when Snow drank the magic potion to forget him, Charming kept fighting for her until she remembered. And even when the Evil Queen seemingly killed Snow, Charming risked his life fighting to bring her back.
He never stopped fighting for her. He was wild for her and so he fought for her.
Hopefully you've caught the parallel by now.
So we have this beautiful, courageous lover, but will his love be reciprocated?
How does the story end?
Obviously, the king doesn't want to slay the dragon and then just walk away. He wants to put the princess behind him on his horse, lock her arms around his waist, and ride off and live happily ever after [ps.45 v.10-11 -themessage] - but only if she goes willingly.
So the question remains:
Am i willing to be fought for?
Am i willing to let my King fight my battles that i am not strong enough to fight myself (which is actually every battle...)?
Am i willing to give up control and let go and follow him wherever He leads?
cause really, isn't that what happily ever after is all about?
