debt

one of the biggest lessons my daddy taught me was the importance of managing money. every time i would say something about getting a paycheck he would say something about tithing part of it. he never hesitated to share his opinions on buying on credit, taking out loans, and not saving.

today i paid off one of my two student loans. it wasn't a very large amount, but it is still a big deal to me! i remember when he helped me take out that loan. he walked me through the process and cosigned on it and helped me put it into deference when i transferred schools. he told me to pay off the interest as i could while i was in school so that it wouldn't capitalize on the principal when it was time to repay. he taught me what cosigning and deference and interest and principal and capitalizing meant.

and now here i am - on my way to being debt free! it's still about a year off, but without his help it would be far longer than that! i wouldn't have thought to pay ahead on the interest. i wouldn't have known you can pay over the minimum payment. these are things that i simply don't pay attention to - i'm the idiot that gets conned by the system! but he was so smart. and so wise. and i am blessed because of it. thank you Lord for such a great daddy!
