also learned that martin luther thought women were good for nothing more than bearing children. sigh. i had so much respect for him too.

why would you expect martin luther to think any differently? i mean, it's only been the last 100 years that women have been intentionally educated outside of the home.
it's unfair to place current expectations on people in a culture that is nothing like our world today. how was he supposed to take a stand on something that was never considered an issue at the time? would he think the same thing about women if he were alive today? probably not.
be careful not to throw out all the good he did just b/c he lived in a different world.
true. i did think of that. i just thot maaaayyyybe since he was such a revolutionary for his time that he would be a little more open. but then again culture does play a huge role. i wonder if he would've thought differently if he lived in a later time...
i didn't know that about luther.
interesting.
cuz i kno some of your thots about...well, ya know.
thanks for getting on the bike again! you look great on it! SL enjoyed giving you another ride. wasn't it a great evening for it?!
I'd like to believe he would think differently if he were in this century...most likely he would, given the other things he thought about and acted on.
Uhhh, motorcycle....this nurse/mom/aunt thinks not such a great idea. I guess you haven't heard my "lecture' on them???
oh i know what kind of lectures there are about motorcycles. but don't worry. emma came back safe and sound. :) i'm the one on the back of a motorcycle much more often than she is.
I notice the kickstand is down, so did you actually RIDE the motorcycle, or just pose???! Great pic!
I get the whole culture thing, but it's still a bit surprising Luther's views on women. There were men in the Bible (waaaay before Luther) who recognized that women bore God's image equally with men, which was pretty revolutionary for those days, of course, but nevertheless true! I wonder how much the mentality and subculture of the Dark Ages crept into religious thinking?
Well Dawn, be careful!!!Watch out for the crazy drivers...
oh i rode. it was great :)
